A fairly formal design was chosen, to mirror the symmetrical facade of the house, with brick-edging to areas of grass and planting. The bricks were carefully chosen to complement the old brick of the house, rather than trying to match it exactly.

The small changes of level were managed with old sleepers and a yew hedge planted to give privacy in the medium term, with temporary, short-term screening provided by woven hazel hurdles.

By late April the buttercups have taken over.

Paths were finished with local gravel which matches the flints in the house and makes a good foil to the turf and planting.
