This stunning patio and kitchen garden had been designed to complement the magnificent old flint barn which forms the backdrop behind it.

In early April there are now masses of cowslips, all self-seeded.

The design was based on three terraces to accommodate the sloping nature of the site, with upper and lower terraces of raised beds and a central seating area.

By late April the buttercups have taken over.

The raised beds were constructed of oak sleepers, and the central patio of oak blocks.

Gravel from a local pit was selected to complement the colour of the flint barn.

The raised beds were filled with a mix of good topsoil and compost.

The beds were soon productive, growing a range of vegetables and herbs planted by the owners.
